SAP Business AI Platform and SAP BTP: what the name change means for you
Short answerSAP Business AI Platform (BAIP) is the name we use for SAP's platform for extensions, integration, data and AI, previously known as SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Existing BTP skills, apps and integrations carry over; the emphasis moves to building and governing AI agents on top of a clean SAP core.

Same foundation, new focus

For years, SAP BTP was where companies built side-by-side extensions, ran integrations and connected data. Under the SAP Business AI Platform name, that same foundation is positioned as the place where AI agents are built, grounded in business context and governed.

What stays the same

  • CAP and Fiori side-by-side applications.
  • Integration Suite for SAP and non-SAP systems.
  • SAP Build for workflows and automation.
  • The clean-core principle: custom logic outside the ERP core.

What gets more important

  • Business context. Agents need to understand how processes, master data and approvals connect.
  • Governance. Identity, access and audit for every AI action.
  • Joule. A plain-language way for people to ask, approve and act.

What to do if you already use BTP

  • Review existing extensions for clean-core compliance.
  • Identify two or three processes where an AI assistant or agent could take on routine work, such as reading supplier invoices.
  • Set governance rules before you scale.
