The need

The company wanted to automate supplier invoice processing as part of its strategic improvement programme, targeting around 50,000 invoices a year that arrive as PDF email attachments.

What we did

  • Built the solution on SAP Build Process Automation on the SAP Business AI Platform
  • Extracted the fields needed for invoice entry from PDF attachments using an AI extraction service
  • Used the confidence score to decide the path: above 97%, a parked invoice is created in SAP automatically
  • Below 97%, a workflow routes the invoice to a user to check and correct the values before it is parked in SAP

The result

A working human-in-the-loop AI process, successfully demonstrated and now being scaled to more than 20 identified vendors. A practical first step towards autonomous finance.

SAP Business AI Platform (BAIP) is the current name we use for SAP's platform for extensions, integration, data and AI, formerly known as SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).
What can AI agents do in SAP today?
Examples include reading supplier invoices, checking data quality, monitoring inventory and preparing re-plans for people to approve, always within defined controls.
Will extensions break our upgrades?
No. Side-by-side extensions use released APIs and run outside the core, which is what keeps upgrades fast.
